Black dog legends have persisted for centuries and continue right to the present day with even policemen having recently reported sightings. The Barghest is the name given to the Black Dog in North Yorkshire but most regions of Great Britain have their own term for it. East Anglia has Black Shuck, North Wales has the Gwyllgi and there are numerous other names for a fierce black canine beast with staring red eyes which mesmerizes and sometimes physically attacks anyone unfortunate enough to encounter it.
here have been many suggestions that the Barghest is harbinger or death or bad tidings, often associated with graveyards or the sites of executions but nobody really knows why the Black Dogs appears or why particular individuals fall victim to it.
